Safely Enhance Your Load Capacity

What Is A GVM Upgrade?

A Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) upgrade increases the maximum allowable weight your vehicle can legally carry - the vehicle itself, passengers, fuel and cargo. Overloading causes braking problems, suspension failure and legal fines. If your vehicle works hard, a GVM upgrade keeps you safe and on the right side of the law.

It's worth considering if you are:

  • A tradesperson carrying heavy tools and equipment
  • Towing a caravan or trailer regularly
  • An off-road tourer carrying extra supplies for the big lap
  • Running vehicles that transport goods long distances

Do I Need A GVM Upgrade?
How It Works

The GVM Certification Process

Upgrading your GVM is more than fitting new suspension. It is a detailed process that ensures your vehicle is safe, legal and roadworthy after the modification.

01

Initial Consultation

We assess your vehicle and your specific load requirements, then recommend the right kit and shock options for how you use it.

02

Suspension Installation

Our experienced technicians install the appropriate Dobinsons suspension kit to safely increase your vehicle's load-carrying capacity.

03

Certification

We certify the vehicle against Australian Design Rules (ADR), so you drive away with the paperwork done and the capacity to carry what you actually need to carry.

  • Certified by the Department of Infrastructure and Transport
  • Improved handling, stability and safety under load
  • Certified across the most popular WA touring platforms - Ranger, Hilux, Prado, LandCruiser and more

Check your manual or the placard on your vehicle for its GVM, then weigh your vehicle at a weighbridge loaded as you would normally drive it (caravan attached if you tow). If the total exceeds your GVM, you are overloaded. Visible rear sag is another warning sign. Unsure? Our GVM guide walks you through it, or call us and we will help.

Contact our friendly team. We will determine the best course of action and which suspension setup your vehicle needs.

Yes. We can do a 2" lift with the GVM upgrade.

Three tiers: Twin-Tube (standard replacement, lowest price), IMS Monotube (mid-range, adjustable, great for corrugations and towing) and MRR 3-Way Adjustable (top tier for optimal ride and damping performance). See the options above or ask us which suits your build.

Currently the Department of Infrastructure and Transport does not endorse or approve upgrades to Gross Combination Mass, and neither does Dobinsons. We can advise on what is legally possible for your setup.
