Before You Book Your Inspection
Most vehicles that fail do so on things the owner could have spotted in the driveway. Pick what you're bringing in, work through the list, and tick as you go — it saves your place if you close the page. No jargon, and anything you're unsure about, that's what we're here for.

You've been through every item. If anything didn't look right, bring it in and we'll sort it before it costs you a re-inspection fee.
Book your inspectionWhy it's worth the time
Set aside an hour to an hour and a half and go through it properly. An inspection is currently $225.40, and a re-inspection is $153.85 if your vehicle fails and comes back within the month. Trailers without brakes are cheaper — $183.00, or $145.90 to re-inspect. Those fees are set by the Department, we don't control them, and we can't waive them. Catching a blown globe or a worn wiper before you arrive is the cheapest fix there is.
Fees are 2026/27 for the South West and are GST free. A failed vehicle gets a written list of what needs fixing, and you have one month to bring it back at the lower re-inspection rate. Once you pass, your certificate is good for three months.

It isn't a substitute for the inspection itself, and working through it doesn't guarantee a pass — the Department has the final say on every vehicle. Weight limits, permit rules and fees change, and some of the Department's own published guides are years old and don't always agree with each other — where a number really matters to you, ring us rather than relying on this page.
